School Visits
Our museum collections offer learners a unique insight into life as a soldier from the First World War and Second World War, through to the present day. Learners will discover and compare the changes in areas such as technology, clothing, and rations, through the exploration of objects, personal stories and activities which link to the Curriculum for Excellence.
Sessions for Schools:
All of our sessions last between 60-90 minutes and we can accommodate a maximum of 30 learners per session. We can offer 2 sessions a day and they are available on a limited basis during term time. Sessions are priced per class at the following flat rate fees:

Two classes (full day): £75
Three or more sessions: £40 per class
Schools in Scotland can apply for a travel subsidy of 75% of transportation costs, up to a maximum of £300 through Historic Environment Scotland. For more information on eligibility criteria and how to apply, please click here.
Sessions for 2023-24 are now FULLY BOOKED. Dates for 2024-25 will be released in the summer.
What People Say About Us
The children were engaged and enjoyed seeing the artefacts up close. Those with a personal interest in WW2 really enjoyed seeing what they had been learning about and those with less knowledge felt that they had learned from the experience.
I think the workshops were excellent, interesting, engaging and active. They also gave a great introduction for the children to think about the First World War and what life was like for soldiers at the time.
It was good for the children to look at the artefacts and compare the rations from the different eras.
Our pupils were all very engaged with the content of the sessions provided. They spoke positively about their day and we even had some feedback from parents about how much their children had enjoyed it.
